Alan and Christine Bell strike gold

Alan Bell and his wife, Christine, celebrated their Golden Wedding in January 2016. Alan was the founder and director of the Fylde Folk Festival, with Christine as the administrator. For 42 years they produced and directed the festival staged in their hometown of Fleetwood. Since closing the festival in 2014, they now concentrate all their time and effort in presenting folk music through Folkus, The Folk Arts Network of the North West, of which Alan is the chairman.

Folkus is funded by the Arts Council and their brief is to stage a rolling programme of music making workshops throughout the North West. The workshops are open to all ages and musical abilities. Expert tutors, directed by Alan, teach and encourage all participants. These activities culminate in a residential weekend of music making held annually.

Together with their two sons, Alan and Christine spent many happy holidays attending festivals and a passion for the music and songs continues. As keen mountaineers and skiers, Alan and Christine honeymooned in the Swiss Alps and they hope to reprise that holiday in 2016. However, Alan's recent knee surgery and the lack of snow in the European mountains means they will delay their celebrations until a later date.

The directors of Folkus wish them both good health and happiness in the years ahead and we are sure our readers will add their own voices to those good wishes.
