North Atlantic Fiddle Convention - Aberdeen - 11-15 July

The North Atlantic Fiddle Convention is a cultural exchange and meeting place for artists, academics, and enthusiasts. At its heart is a convention that brings together scholars, practitioners, teachers and other stakeholders to share ideas, practices, research and knowledge about the field of fiddle performance and related dance, from the cultures and diasporas of the North Atlantic region. Uniquely structured, NAFCo combines a festival with an academic conference, featuring interactive workshops, concerts, interviews, public lectures, academic papers, busking, and live-music sessions in pubs.

This year, from 11–15 July in Aberdeen it brings some of the world’s top musicians, dancers and academics to perform and discuss the rich fiddle and dance styles that have developed around the North Atlantic seaboard.

For learner and audiences, there will be a large and varied programme of talks, presentations and hands-on fiddle and dance workshops taught by local, national and international tutors as well as a fiddle camp for young people led by celebrated Scottish fiddler Patsy Reid. Expect ceilidhs and symposia, film screenings and pub sessions, club nights and pop-up gigs, busking trails and international concerts and so much more.

There are many artists involved this year, including Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas, Aonghas Grant, Blythe Lasses, Danny Diamond & Conor Caldwell, Jonny Hardie, Matt Cranitch, Paul Anderson, Rheingans Sisters and many many more.
