January 18th. We had a meeting at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, taking advantage of the buzz at Celtic Connections, to plan Living Tradition Summer Schools 2010. In the summer of 2009 we found an ideal venue in The West Park Conference Centre in Dundee. To help develop the summer schools for the future and to share the management load, we have agreed to create a Community Interest Company to give the Summer Schools the best base from which to grow.
We currently have 4 people willing to be Directors, including a retired accountant, Don Davidson, who will be our Financial Director. Don used to be involved with the Inverness festival in the 70s and has been a paying customer at the summer schools over the last two years. He understands the issues and wants to help keep us on track. Nigel Gatherer has also agreed to be a Director and take on the role of Chairman. Nigel brings a tutor perspective to the Board. Nigel was nominated for Tutor of the Year in last years Scottish Trad Music Awards. Nigel runs a website with various teaching resouces : www.nigelgatherer.com
Having other people to share the load - plus to some extent having a 'new start' after a successful move to Dundee, should allow the summer schools to fly. The venue in Dundee worked well, and having found it, we want to stay there. Summer Schools website
