KATE RUSBY - "10" Pure Records PRCD10

This record is to celebrate Kate Rusby's tenth anniversary as a professional performer. It's been an incredible ten years for Barnsley's finest. Still only 20 something, she is now a seasoned performer. Her arrangements and live performances have brought a freshness to traditional music which has captivated a younger audience and this is healthy

In such a short musical life, she has erupted up the musical success ladder. Her second album was shortlisted for the Mercury music award while her third saw her development as a songwriter. The latter includes "Who Will Sing Me Lullabies" winning the 2002 BBC Folk Award for best original song.

Most of the Rusby favourites are on the album such as "The Recruited Collier/The Sleepless Sailor/The Wild Goose/I Wonder What Is Keeping My True Love" and others. I never tire of some of these old favourites especially "The Wild Goose." There are also two new songs, "I Wish" and "Over You Now", the latter written for the movie "Heartlands" in which she and husband John also appear. Married to one of Britain's finest fiddlers John McCusker allows her, unsurprisingly, to utilise a superb backing band, both for this album and for live performances.

Controlling her own record label Pure Records, a family affair, is shrewd business thinking. With Kate's reputation firmly established, she can only go from strength to strength.
