This one’s a bit different. It’s a colouring book, aimed at adults with an interest in traditional dance (and also appropriate for children). Adult colouring has become somewhat in vogue in recent years, and is apparently actually good for relieving stress, improving fine motor skills, and aiding relaxation. So why not combine the art of colouring with the subject matter of ceilidh music or set dancing? No good reason, apparently.
Jeehyun Hoke has provided 45 different illustrations for this book, which vary from images of the dance hall, the band, dancers and instruments, to related phrases (do si do, swing to the right etc) written in detailed Celtic designs, all of which would benefit from a good colouring! The book also proudly features some same sex couples, all sorts of different body shapes and even men in skirts, reflecting the diverse nature of dancing today.
Christmas is coming, and this could make a stocking filler that is a bit more unusual for that dance lover in your life.
