Preceding a UK tour this October, Richard Thompson releases this CD of acoustic versions of some of his classic songs. It follows volume one, released in 2014 and features just the man himself and his acoustic guitar.
The release is a reminder, should anybody need one, of why RT is renowned as one of the world’s top guitarists and a songwriter of great merit. And hearing him without the band, if anything, shines the spotlight even further on the man and his songs. The words hit you differently; make you listen to them. And the guitar work is faultless, more than that, it is stunning.
Songs such as She Twists The Knife Again, The Ghost Of You Walks, Meet On The Ledge and Crazy Man Michael are here. Some songs included have previously been recorded and released by other artists, others have only been available in band format before. All benefit from the master’s touch here.
One for RT fans’ collections, but also one that will appeal to a wider audience of acoustic music enthusiasts.
