| SIMON HAWORTH "Coast to Coast" Fellside FECD136 | ||||
|
The true test of a song is the amount of covers it generates, so Huw Williams' "Rosemary's Sister" can apply for flying colours. It's here on "Coast to Coast", the debut album of Simon Haworth, along with the work of similarly successful songwriters such as Steve Tilston, Archie Fisher and Terry Docherty. I had Simon down as a fine accompanying guitarist (which he is - check out his work with Carlene Anglim and Tina Cooper elsewhere or here with Amanda Lewis and Julian Sutton), but on this recorded evidence he is well up on the song-interpretation front too. Reading between the lines of the insert notes, his dad's record collection seems remarkably similar to ours, so with such a tasteful resource behind him, Simon is already a long way down the right track. And he can play the guitar just like ringin' a bell. Alan Rose |
