KASÍR - Reel Irish

KASÍR - Reel Irish
Gofolk Go0106

There seems to be a link between Irish reels and traditional Danish instrumental music, but I don't feel qualified enough to say what those links are. You know that you are not listening to Irish musicians and that is the way it should be, but it is hard to say what the differences are.

Kasír are a trio from Denmark featuring the classic line up of bodhran, guitar, accordion and whistles. Still all in their teens, they play with a maturity well beyond their years, displaying good musicianship and excellent arrangements of some well known Irish tunes. They also include some of their own compositions which also show maturity and imagination. Kasír make a fantastic sound which has been well produced so that all instruments are clear but mix together to form a rich sound, although my copy did have some distortion on whistle when played with the volume turned up.

Recorded last year in October in Devon, I presume they have played over here, or met up with some of the excellent young musicians coming out of Scotland or The Sage. If not, someone out there should suggest a collaboration and tour.

I don't suppose this is readily available but if you want a CD of Irish tunes, but with a slightly different slant, then this is worth searching out so I have included both their's and the label's website www.kasir.dk and www.gofolk.dk
