LOCUST HONEY STRING BAND - He Ain’t No Good

LOCUST HONEY STRING BAND - He Ain’t No Good
Private Label

The band are Chloe Edmonstone – fiddle, guitar and vocals, Ariel Dixon – banjo, guitar and vocals, and Meredith Watson – guitar, percussion and vocals. The girls, from Swannanoa, North Carolina, are intent on keeping the bluegrass / country / Appalachian / old time traditions flowing. Living in the Blue Ridge Mountains has spawned some great songs and tunes. Folklorist and old-time performer Bascom Lamar Lunsford was founder of the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival in Ashville and these girls grew up listening to the sounds of the old performers and determined to carry on the music.

They dig deep into the tradition with Jealous Hearted Me – The Carter Family; Banjo Picking Girl and Georgia Railroad – Skillet Lickers; Lost Girl – Clyde Davenport; He Ain’t No Good – Mississippi Sheiks; Thanks A Lot – Ernest Tubb and All The Time from the great Kitty Wells.

The girls sing and play well and kick up a storm that is guaranteed to keep both the old timers and younger fans happy. They inject these nuggets from the past with a vibrantly earthy spirit which sparkles with feel-good freshness.
